When people read my story, they often ask me:
“How did you even begin? I don’t know anything about medicine or the body.”
And I always say — you don’t start with science.
You start with silence. With listening.
Your body is not a stranger. It’s been speaking to you for years. You just haven’t been taught how to understand its language.
So here’s how to begin — no textbooks needed.
1. Observe Like a Child. No Filters.
Just start noticing:
- What happens to your energy after eating certain foods?
- Does wheat make you bloated?
- Does sugar give you a quick high and then a crash?
- After waking up, do you feel fresh, or still tired?
- What happens to your skin, your sleep, your mind after spicy food, cold water, or dairy?
Your body speaks through patterns. All you have to do is:
- Eat something → Observe → Write it down.
- Take a medicine → Observe → Write it down.
- Change your routine → Watch how your mood shifts.
That’s all. Slowly, you’ll begin to see a map forming — a map of your body’s likes, dislikes, warnings, and recoveries.
2. Feel What’s Wrong — Not Just Where
Sometimes we feel pain in the body but misread its cause. For example:
- You feel pain in your legs, but it’s not from walking — it could be cold water suppressing Vata, which controls movement. Cold increases dryness and stiffness.
- You feel foggy and heavy after a large meal — that’s likely Kapha imbalance.
- You get irritated and hot in the afternoons — maybe your Pitta (fire energy) is too high.
Try these simple awareness tools at home:
- Take your pulse: If it’s racing for no reason, check what you just ate or drank. If pulse rate is below 70 it shows kapha governing body, between 70 to 80 is caused by Pitta aggravation and 80 to 100 or above displays vata aggrevation
- Look at your tongue in the morning: White coating means toxins (ama).
- Sleep patterns: Waking up between 2–3 a.m. often shows liver or pitta-related imbalance.
- Bowel movement: Dry and hard → Vata; Loose and urgent → Pitta; Sluggish and incomplete → Kapha.
3. Understand Vata, Pitta, Kapha — Your Inner Climate
These are not vague ancient terms. They are energies in your body, guiding everything from your mood to your metabolism.
Vata – Air + Space
- Governs movement, nervous system
- Symptoms of imbalance: Cold limbs, gas, anxiety, insomnia, joint pain
- Triggers: Cold food, raw food, irregular meals, overthinking
- Calming foods: Warm soups, ghee, cooked vegetables, grounding spices (ginger, cumin)
Pitta – Fire + Water
- Governs digestion, metabolism, vision
- Symptoms of imbalance: Acidity, anger, skin rashes, body heat
- Triggers: Spicy food, stress, alcohol, hot weather
- Cooling foods: Coconut water, mint, cucumber, rice, milk
Kapha – Earth + Water
- Governs structure, immunity, lubrication
- Symptoms of imbalance: Lethargy, weight gain, congestion, sadness
- Triggers: Heavy meals, dairy, cold drinks, sleeping during the day
- Balancing foods: Light meals, bitter veggies, turmeric, black pepper
4. Quick Food Reactions to Watch For
| Food | Effect |
|---|---|
| Spicy food | Increases Pitta (watch for anger, heat, acidity) |
| Yogurt at night | Increases Kapha (watch for sinus, mucus, laziness) |
| Cold water | Increases Vata (watch for pain, stiffness) |
| Ghee in small amounts | Balances Vata and Pitta |
| Fried or oily food | Increases Kapha and Pitta |
| Excess raw salads | Increases Vata (for some people) |
5. When You Feel Sick — Try This First
- Drink warm water throughout the day to detox gently
- Eat only light food (moong dal khichdi is ideal)
- Rest deeply but don’t oversleep
- Observe your pulse, tongue, mood, and digestion
- Practice Anulom Vilom and Surya Nadi Pranayam if feeling cold or sluggish
- Stay away from sugar and dairy during sickness
- Watch, don’t panic. Most early illnesses are just imbalances, not diseases.
Conclusion: Awareness is the Medicine
You don’t need to memorize big words. You don’t need to diagnose like a doctor.
You only need to remember this:
Your body is not random. It is rhythmic. It is responsive. It is readable.
If you listen, it will guide you. If you question, it will teach you.
If you take small conscious steps — you begin walking toward deep, lasting health.
Healing begins the moment you stop outsourcing your attention.
Your body has a language. And now, you’re learning to speak it.
